On the border between the Netherlands and Germany, a regional partnership has been established since 2011: the GPRW (Grensoverschrijdend Platform voor Regionaal Waterbeheer in Dutch, or Grenzüberschreitende Plattform für Regionale Wasserwirtschaft in German). This initiative brings together regional partners from both countries, including German entities like Kreis Borken, Kreis Steinfurt, Landkreis Grafschaft Bentheim, Landkreis Emsland, and Bezirksregierung Münster, alongside Dutch organisations such as Waterschap Rijn en IJssel and Waterschap Vechtstromen.
This year JCAR ATRACE will conduct a transboundary stress test together with the GPRW, kicking off a series of three workshops aimed at sharing insights and gathering input from regional partners. The first of these workshops took place digitally on March 19, bringing together a diverse group of attendees, from water managers to crisis managers.
During the workshop, participants were presented with possible scenarios and the available models used in water management in the region. The upcoming workshops will delve deeper into the outcomes of the stresstest (such as inundation maps) and explore potential measures to enhance regional water management strategies.
Thank you to all participants for their invaluable contributions during this inaugural workshop! If you are interested in learning more about the GPRW and their initiatives, check out their website.
Stay tuned for more updates on this critical collaboration!
