As the global landscape of water management and geosciences continues to evolve, JCAR ATRACE is participating in essential international events that drive knowledge exchange, foster innovation, and address critical challenges in flood and drought management.
Curious to know where you can hear from our experts? Below is a summary of our involvement in some key upcoming events where we strive to make a significant impact.
EGU General Assembly 2025
Event Date: April 27 – May 2, 2025
Location: Vienna, Austria (also online)
The EGU General Assembly 2025 unites geoscientists from across the globe for a conference encompassing all areas of Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU seeks to create a platform where scientists, particularly those who are early in their careers, can showcase their research and engage in discussions with specialists from all branches of geoscience.
JCAR ATRACE session “Managing flood and drought risks across borders”
In 2025, JCAR ATRACE will host a focused session on advancing flood and drought management in transboundary contexts. Climate change and socio-economic developments are heightening the risks of floods and droughts, necessitating increased investments in adaptation and effective cross-border cooperation. This session seeks to enhance understanding of flood and drought management in transboundary contexts, focusing on river basins, aquifers, and reservoirs. Key research areas include risk analysis of hydrological systems, the development of forecasting and early-warning mechanisms, socio-economic impact studies, governance challenges in integrated water management, the effectiveness of Nature-Based Solutions, and successful case studies of international collaboration in managing these disasters.
As part of our program, this session is organised by: Tim Busker, Daniela Rodríguez Castro, Thijs Endendijk, Sergiy Vorogushyn & Davide Zoccatelli.

41st IAHR World Congress
Event Date: June 22 – 27, 2025
Location: Singapore EXPO
With the theme "Innovative Water Engineering for Sustainable Development," the 41st IAHR World Congress aims to tackle pressing water-related challenges. JCAR ATRACE’s participation focuses on the dynamic interplay between water resource management, climate change, and sustainability. This gathering will facilitate dialogues among researchers, practitioners, and experts across the world to present groundbreaking research and innovative solutions in water engineering. Our contributions will emphasise the importance of integrated approaches to water management that are sensitive to the multidimensional challenges faced by societies worldwide.
JCAR ATRACE Session "Debris and Driftwood Accumulation"
This special session will provide an in-depth examination of the impact of recent floods, particularly the accumulation of driftwood and debris at hydraulic structures. Convened by leading experts Davide Wüthrich, Isabella Schalko, Sébastien Erpicum, and Elena-Maria Klopries, this session aims to unite researchers who are studying these phenomena. Through knowledge sharing and discussion, we aim to better understand the processes and identify effective strategies for flood resilience and debris management. The session is a vital opportunity to highlight ongoing research and develop coordinated approaches to tackle debris issues and enhance flood risk management.

Through these events, JCAR ATRACE is committed to advancing understanding and driving innovation in flood and drought management. We encourage fellow researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to collaborate and contribute to these significant discussions in our shared quest for sustainable water management solutions. Join us as we work to create a resilient future for communities affected by these critical issues.
