On March 12, we had the pleasure of visiting the Water Research Laboratory (WRL) in Maastricht. This gathering brought together passionate researchers dedicated to enhancing our understanding of flood risk management, with Kymo Slager from Deltares and Jeroen Aerts from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam representing our programme.
During our visit, we engaged in insightful discussions with the WRL team about effective strategies for managing flood risks in Limburg. We shared the findings from our recent studies focusing on nature-based solutions and the development of flood maps. It was inspiring to see how our research could align with practical experiences shared by our hosts.
The regional floods of 2021, affecting Limburg and surrounding areas, are part of the reason for the establishment of JCAR ATRACE. We are therefore committed to not only strengthening our individual efforts but also building a collective foundation for creating a water-safe and resilient Limburg together with WRL.
